The FCC has mandated that all radio communications in the UHF & VHF bands be changed to 12.5 kHz operation no later than Jan. 1, 2013.  This will effect many people throughout the country and the deadline is fast approaching.  Most radios manufactured after Feb. 1997 are capable of the 12.5 kHz operation mode and all radios manufactured after Jan. 2000 are capable.  For these instances all it takes is reprogramming of your radio fleet to comply with the new FCC mandate.  Older radios that are not capable of complying with this standard must be replaced or shut off by Jan. 1, 2013.

This is the perfect opportunity for most companies to think about migrating to digital radios.  Since half of your available bandwidth is going to be disappearing, analog radios will lose some audio quality and coverage.  Digital radios need less bandwidth to offer the same audio quality and coverage.  In some instances digital radios at 12.5 kHz efficiency actually outperform their analog counterparts at 25 kHz efficiency.

Motorola MotoTRBO digital radios conform to the 12.5 kHz requirements and also conform to the upcoming 6.25 kHz efficiency standards.  This means that with MotoTRBO you will be ready for the future.  Couple that with MotoTRBO’s capability of text messaging, telemetry, GPS, private call & data transmission; MotoTRBO is the perfect solution to carry your business into the 21st Century.
